MADERA COUNTY — Two suspects are behind bars after being caught red-handed with a stolen vehicle in Chowchilla.
On January 3rd at around 2:30 AM, Chowchilla police officers came upon a vehicle in the drive-thru at Carl’s Jr. which had previously been reported stolen. The vehicle fled and a short chase ensued, ending abruptly when the suspects lost control and barreled into a fence at Ed Ray Park.
A foot chase then followed, of which officers and K-9 Remy made short work. The suspects — Matthew Johnson (24) and Mary Castrejon (29) — were arrested and charged with multiple felony and misdemeanor charges which included vehicle theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, evading officers, vandalism, and possession of burglary tools.
