Watsonville Man Arrested After Assault on Gas Pump

WATSONVILLE — Police have arrested 29-year-old Edgar Cruz-Arias of Watsonville on numerous charges after he was seen taking his anger out on a gas pump at 7-Eleven on East Lake Avenue.

At 6:57 PM last Thursday evening, police were called to the 7-Eleven after reports of a suspicious individual attempting to ignite a lighter near one of the gas pumps. Once on scene, officers discovered Cruz-Arias spraying one of the pumps with a fire extinguisher.

He then threw the fire extinguisher and started bashing the pump with a 3-foot iron rod. He then took a swing at the officers when they tried to approach him, prompting them to deploy a taser and take him into custody.

He was booked into Santa Cruz County Jail on charges of forced assault with a deadly weapon, obstruction, vandalism of property, arson to property, and being under the influence of a controlled substance. His bail has been set at $25,000.
