HOLLISTER — The Hollister Police Department made a point to include extra police presence to keep things running smoothly at the annual 4th of July Bike Rally. Turns out it was not for naught, as one officer ended up making an arrest for the intent to distribute and sell drugs.

One Hollister officer was on foot patrol in the 400 block of San Benito when he saw what appeared to be an altercation between a man and a woman on the sidewalk in front of him. The officer broke things up and confronted the young man, identifed as 19-year-old Jose Estrada, who was less than amused about speaking to an officer. A brief struggle ensued and the officer placed him under arrest.

The young woman, 23-year-old Alyssa Sanchez of Hollister, was later arrested for public intoxication and obstruction. The two were both taken to San Benito County Jail and booked on obstruction charges.

During a booking search, approximately 35 individual packages of what appeared to be cocaine were found in Estrada’s pocket. Police later added a charge of intent to sell drugs.
