Car Thief Crashes into Three Cars during Police Chase

SANTA CLARA — The Santa Clara Police Department is reporting the arrest of a suspect on June 11, 2016, who was found driving a stolen vehicle in the area of Montague Expressway and Mission College.

Police driving in the area located a vehicle that had been stolen out of San Jose.  Attempting to initiate a felony stop, the driver failed to stop for officers taking off at a high rate of speed near the De La Cruz Boulevard near Argus Way.

Once officers were able to catch up to the suspect, he was found moments later after colliding into three vehicles stopped at the intersection of Montague Expressway near the Mission College Boulevard exit.

According to the Santa Clara Police Department, “The suspect exited the vehicle from the driver’s window and ran onto Mission College Boulevard toward Wyatt Drive.”  A passerby was able to direct police to the location where the suspect was last seen running, and he was apprehended without further incident.

During the investigation into why the suspect ran, it was determined that he was under the influence of a controlled substance, as well as driving a stolen vehicle with a revoked drivers license.

The suspect was also found to have burglary tools in his possession in which he had used a shaved key to operate the vehicle. The suspect was transported to a local hospital to check for injuries and was subsequently booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for being under the influence of drugs, possession of a stolen vehicle, hit-and-run, and evading police.

According to the Santa Clara Police Department, “Officers also located a second stolen car out of Lathrop in the area where the suspect had crashed the vehicle.”  The vehicle was recovered and the owner notified.

Anyone with information regarding this incident or others is urged to contact the Santa Clara Police Department at (408) 615-4700.
