Would-Be Car Thief Found with Loaded Handgun

MILPITAS — Milpitas police are reporting the arrest of a female car thief who may have multiple victims in the area of Blueridge Drive.

According to police, a resident observed a suspicious woman near his vehicle on February 25th at approximately 7 AM. He watched as the woman opened his unlocked car and was then able to momentarily detain her.

She was able to escape and flee to her own vehicle and drive away, but was stopped by police a short distance away and taken into custody.

The woman was identified as 36-year-old Rachel Arellano of Gilroy.

A search of her vehicle turned up a loaded small caliber handgun and drug paraphernalia, police say.

Arellano was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail for possession of a loaded firearm, convicted felon in possession of a firearm, auto theft, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

She has since been released after a brief bail hearing and is expected to enter a plea.
