Wanted Bakersfield Mailbox Thief Caught

BAKERSFIELD — A 19-year-old Bakersfield man was arrested on Wednesday, after he was caught stealing from mailboxes.

Blake Reed was booked into the Kern County Jail for mail theft, identity theft, possession of forged checks and possession of stolen credit cards. His bail has been set at $250,000.

According to the Bakersfield Police Department, on December 2 at around 10 a.m., officers responded to a call of a suspect removing mail from mailboxes and a package from the front porch of a house in the 2900 block of Cedarwood Street in Bakersfield.

However, by the time officers arrived, the suspect had fled the area in a vehicle that was then located by officers a short distance away from the area where the thefts occurred.

Officers said when they found Reed, he was still in possession of several mailbox keys, which are commonly used to open the larger package receptacles of community mailboxes.

According to the BPD, Reed has been arrested numerous times in past for similar crimes and has been a person of interest in previous mail theft investigations.
