Transient Assaults Business Owner

The San Luis Obispo Police arrested a man for allegedly hitting a local business owner.

According to SLOPD, they received a call from the 600 Block of Higuera around 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday regarding a possible battery. The victim, who is a local business owner, told police he was struck on the mouth by a transient male.

He further told police the suspect fled on foot from the area. However, responding police were able to locate the suspect about three blocks away. He was identified as Benjamin Mich Strickland, 39, a transient resident of San Luis Obispo.

Strickland was placed under arrest for misdemeanor battery and transported and booked into custody of the San Luis Obispo County Jail. Strickland has been arrested in the past in downtown San Luis Obispo for other violent assaults, including assault with a deadly weapon, and battery causing great bodily injury in 2013, and disorderly conduct in 2014..
