Martinez woman arrested for vehicular manslaughter

CONCORD — A 19-year-old Martinez woman was arrested for vehicular manslaughter on Wednesday morning after she allegedly ran a red light and collided with another vehicle, killing the car’s driver, police said.

The deceased driver, 56-year-old Mohammad “Farooq” Ibrahimi of Concord, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The young woman, Alana Michelle Urban, was driving a 2004 Dodge Ram pickup truck west on Concord Boulevard when it ran into a 1998 Acura sedan that was traveling south on Ayers Road at just after 11 a.m., according to police.

Based on a preliminary investigation of witness accounts and other evidence, it is believed Urban was speeding and ran a red light when she struck Ibrahimi’s car. He was in the middle of the intersection attempting to make a left from Ayers Road to go in the opposite direction she was coming from, police said.

A number of witnesses at the scene claimed they saw Urban’s truck moving at a high speed and run through a red light, according to police.

Urban was taken to a hospital where she was treated for minor injuries before she was placed in police custody.

Concord Boulevard was closed in both directions between Ayers Road and Trailcreek Court until approximately 5 p.m.
