Sex Offender Arrested for Kidnapping Real Estate Agent

ELK GROVE – Police arrested a 47-year-old Sacramento man on Thursday, January 8, after responding to a call about a kidnapping at a nearby location.

On Saturday at approximately 4:30 p.m., Elk Grove Police Department responded to the 8400 block of Elk Grove Blvd. and met with the victim, a rest estate agent, who said she had been kidnapped and held against her will by the suspect, identified as David Burnhart, who is a registered sex offender. He will make his first appearance in court today.

The victim was working at a new home sales office located in the 8500 block of Ria Formosa Way when she was contacted by phone by Burnhart, who made an appointment with her to see the model homes at the new development.

Burnhart arrived around 3:30 p.m. and met with the agent. While inside one of the model homes, he pulled out a handgun, threatened and then held her against her will. Burnhart proceeded to walk the victim into a bedroom and handcuff her. She was later moved to another location in the house.

While Burnhart and the victim were inside the home, a security officer arrived and could be seen outside the development. Burnhart removed the handcuffs and ordered her to walk to the front door. As Burnhart exited the home, she closed and locked the door behind him. Unable to get back into the house, he drove away in a red pickup truck.

The victim waived down the security officer and asked for assistance. Fearing for his safety and the safety of the victim, the security officer drove to a nearby shopping area and called police.  The agent had not been sexually assaulted or injured.

Burnhart was arrested a short time later in Modesto.
