Brothers Arrested for Fatal Shooting in Southwest Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD — Two men suspected of fatally shooting a man in southwest Bakersfield on Sept. 21 were arrested on Sunday.

Fernando Romero, 23, and his 34 year old brother Horacio Romero, were booked into the Kern County Sheriff’s Office Central Receiving Facility on Sept. 28.

Fernando Romero for first degree murder, and Horacio Romero for accessory to murder and destruction of evidence.

The younger brother is being held without bail.

According to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office, detectives working the case of a fatal shooting of 43-year-old Juan Ramirez in the 200 block of Fishering Drive in southwest Bakersfield on Sept. 21 at around 7 p.m., were able to identify Fernando Romero as the primary suspect after determining that he was one of several people that had been in the back yard of the home when the shooting occurred .

Deputies arrived on shortly after the shooting that night, but Ramirez was pronounced dead at the scene.
