Police Seek Two Suspects in Homicide and Attempted Robbery

SALINAS—Salinas Police are actively searching for two suspects after they entered the Hot Stop convenience store at 11 Williams Road with the intent of robbing it.  When they could not get any money one suspect opened fire and killed one of the three people inside.

On Friday, August 15, at 9:40 p.m., officers with the Salinas Police Department responded to the convenience store on a report of an armed robbery that had just occurred. When they arrived they found an employee and two others suffering from gunshot wounds.

Two of three victims were shot multiple times during the robbery. One victim, identified as 62-year-old Sokimo Oh of Salinas, died from her injuries. She was a devoted mother and an active member in the Korean community. One of the other victims was a woman who was critically wounded, and at last report was in stable condition in a local hospital. The third victim was the employee, and he was treated and released from the hospital.

“An on scene investigation revealed that the two masked gunman entered the store with the intent of robbing it.” Salinas Police Commander Vincent Maiorana wrote in a press release, “When the registers could not be opened one suspect started shooting at the employee.”

Both suspects appeared to be male and were last seen running from the store on Williams Road. This case is being actively investigated by the Salinas Police Department.  Suspect #1 is described as a male, approximately 5’6” tall wearing dark colored pants and grey hooded sweatshirt and black mask covering his face. Suspect #2 is described as approximately 6 feet tall wearing dark colored pants, white hooded sweatshirt and a black mask covering his face.

Salinas Police Detectives are looking for witnesses or anyone whom may have information regarding this crime.
