Fugitive Found, Arrested in Onyx

ONYX — A 34-year-old wanted felon running from authorities is behind bars, after he was found hiding out in the small Kern County mountain community of Onyx, near Lake Isabella.

Mark Flores, of Onyx, was booked into the Kern County Sheriff’s Central Receiving Facility for felon in possession of ammunition, assault with a deadly weapon, making terrorist threats, spousal battery, false imprisonment and another outstanding warrant for felon in possession of a firearm.

He is being held on $250.000 bail.

The Kern County Sheriff’s Office stated that the incident leading to Flores’ arrest took place at about 7:30 p.m. on July 3, when members of Kern County Sheriff’s SWAT team, along with officers from nearby Bakersfield Police Department SWAT, the Kern County Sheriff’s helicopter and deputies from the Kern Valley substation served a high-risk search and arrest warrant in the 8000 block of Rocky Hill Road in Onyx.

Editor’s note – Onyx is a census-designated place near Weldon.  The 2010 Census listed its population at 475, down from 476 in 2000.  One might assume it is now 474.
