A Civil Dispute Lands Hollister Man in Jail

Police recovered two weapons at the Suspect’s residence

HOLLISTER—Officers with the Hollister Police Department arrested 54-year-old Hollister resident Michael Robert Wedekind after he reportedly brandished a handgun at his neighbor following a dispute.

On Thursday March 6, Officers responded to the 100 block of East Street on a report of an in-progress disturbance that involved a person brandishing a handgun, and had chasing the victim down the street.

“He bought a gun to an argument. “ Hollister Police Captain Carlos Reynoso said, “When in an argument, we tend to see what other people are doing to us, we don’t see what we are doing to them.”

When Officers arrived on the scene they located Wedekind, who was still at his residence.  As Officers began investigating the incident they searched Wedekind’s home and recovered the handgun in question and a shotgun. Police were able to review surveillance video that captured the incident.  After viewing the video, Wedekind was arrested and charged with possessing a handgun in public, brandishing a handgun and assault with a deadly weapon.

“This part of East Street is a mixed neighborhood, meaning it is zoned for business and homes.” Captain Reynoso added, “It was a business that had surveillance cameras.”

Officers transported Wedekind to the San Benito County Jail where he was booked on the charges.
