Tulare Coach Accused of Having Sexual Relationships With Girls

TULARE – The Tulare Police Department arrested a youth sports coach who they say has been having sex with girls between the ages of 13 and 17.

The police department did not reveal where 38-year-old Denell Johnson, of Tulare, coached, but said that he is currently and has been involved as a coach for girls’ youth sports in the Tulare area.

Officers responded to a residence in the 1700 block of West Bane Street for a report of a disturbance late last month. Through their investigation, officers learned that Johnson had been involved in sexual relationships with female minors over the last six years.

Johnson was arrested on suspicion of lewd acts with a minor and annoying or molesting a person under the age of 18. He was booked into the Tulare County Jail.

Johnson was already a registered sex offender in California before his arrest. According to the Megan’s Law website, he has been convicted of lewd or lascivious acts with a child 14 or 15 years of age.

Investigators believe there may be additional victims. Anyone with information is asked to contact Investigator Rosa Moreno at (559) 685-2300, ext. 2157.
