Violent evening reveals drug lab in home

SANTA ROSA – The sound of gunfire and car tires squealing raised the alert for residents in the Roseland neighborhood of Santa Rosa , prompting a call to the Sheriff’s office.

Sheriff's Deputies were called to Cherie Way on reports of gunfire.

Sheriff’s Deputies were called to Cherie Way on reports of gunfire.

Deputies responding to the call on Monday evening at 5 pm to the home at 147 Cherie Way found no one home, but the gunfire was enough to prompt a search of the home for concern of an injured or possibly dead person inside. According to the Sheriff’s Office, what they found instead was a large quantity of processed marijuana and a butane honey oil lab. Honey oil, also known as hash oil, is a concentrated extract of marijuana made by extracting resins from cannabis using butane gas. The result is a highly potent drug that can be either smoked, or vaporized and inhaled. It can also cause explosions while manufacturing it, and is illegal even when medical marijuana is permitted.

The Sheriff’s Narcotics and Violent Crimes detectives were called in to investigate, learning the residents of the home were 41-year-old Veronica Kenney and 22-year-old Patrick Elias McMullin. The two were located and contacted about the incident, and investigators subsequently arrested McMullin on charges of manufacturing a controlled substance, and possession of marijuana for sale. It appears that the two are relatives, possibly brother and sister. McMullin may have been running the operation while she was unaware of his activities.

The young man was booked into the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Main Detention Center. He was released on posting the $100,000 bail pending his arraignment. According to the Sheriff’s office, the incident of the gun shot and car at the scene are still under investigation.
