Suspect Identified in Fatal Stabbing

FRESNO – Police identified a 22-year-old as the man suspected of fatally stabbing another young man over the weekend in southeast Fresno.

Elbert Bustos was arrested in connection to the death of 22-year-old David Vasquez, who was identified by the Fresno County Coroner’s Office on Monday.

The incident happened early Sunday morning when a group of people were involved in a dispute at Club Legends in central Fresno. The fight then carried over to a home in the 2100 block of South Matus Avenue, just east of Chestnut Avenue and south of SeniorCitizensVillage.

As more people jumped into the fight, it turned into a massive brawl. According to police, Vasquez and Bustos did not even know each other but they had friends of relationships that knew each other. Vasquez was stabbed during the fight.

Police are still trying to determine what caused the dispute and why it escalated. They do not believe it was gang related.

Bustos was booked into Fresno County Jail and is facing a murder charge.
