Suspects in Avenal homicide arrested in Reedley

Iscander Madrigal, 20

REEDLEY — Two suspects wanted in connection with a homicide that took place in Avenal last weekend were apprehended in Reedley on May 26.

The two men, Iscander Madrigal, 20, and Christian Lopez, 19, are suspects in the shooting death of Luis Miguel Meza, 21, at a convenience store in Avenal. The crime occurred at 11:40 p.m. at the Circle K store at 428 Skyline Blvd. Meza died at the scene from a gunshot wound to the chest, according to the Kings County Sheriff’s Office.

A combination of witness statements and video from the Circle K led to Madrigal and Lopez as suspects in the homicide, according to Det. Chris Fernandes of the Kings County Sheriff’s Office.

“There is no apparent motive at this point,” Fernandes said.

There are currently no other suspects outstanding, he added.

The two suspects were found hiding out in a home on Early Avenue in Reedley on Wednesday afternoon by MAGEC, Fresno County Sheriff’s Department and Reedley Police Department officers.

“During the course of the investigation, we developed information that led us to that area,” Fernandes said. “While surveilling area, (officers) were able to contact some people that had seen them in the house.”

Madrigal and Lopez were arrested and are now being held in Kings County Jail.
