Anna Jean Yi, 27, from Sacramento was reportedly booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail for misdemeanor being under the influence of a narcotic, misdemeanor DUI, misdemeanor resisting arrest, felony evading a police officer, and felony assault on an officer in the line of duty.

According to the Sacramento Sheriff’s office, at 2 am this morning, Wednesday, November 20, a Sheriff’s patrol deputy was waved down by a female — later identified as Yi — standing outside of her vehicle in the intersection of Mayhew Road and Keifer Boulevard in Sacramento. As the deputy made contact with the female, he reportedly observed Yi walking in and out of the roadway and talking, but making no sense.

The corner of Kiefer and Mayhew was the scene of Yi’s 2 am activities. It turned into one of several traffic challenges on the rainy morning as the investigation closed off lanes during the morning commute.

The deputy reportedly requested a DUI trained officer to respond to the area to evaluate Yi’s ability to drive. When the deputy asked Yi for her identification, she reportedly began to struggle with the officer, ultimately getting back in her vehicle. In her attempt to flee the scene, Yi reportedly hit the officer with her vehicle. The deputy reportedly fired shots at Yi’s vehicle as she fled the scene.

According to Sac Sheriff, officers pursued the vehicle for a short distance. Yi reportedly pulled into a driveway and attempted to flee on foot, at which time she was apprehended by officers. Yi was then reportedly transported to a nearby hospital to be deemed medically fit for incarceration.

Yi drove to a driveway in this neighborhood and then tried to flee on foot.

The patrol officer reportedly sustained a minor injury. According to Sac Sheriff, there will be an investigation into the incident by the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau and Professional Standards Division, which is standard practice for any officer-involved shooting that occurs in the Sheriff Department’s jurisdiction. In the meantime, the officer involved will be placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. He is reportedly eight year veteran of the Department, currently assigned to Field and Investigative Services.
