Mother and Son Arrested on Drug, Weapons and Further Felony Charges

While serving a search warrant at an East Davis apartment complex on August 6, Davis police, partnered with officers from the Yolo County Narcotics Enforcement Team, arrested Jessie Herrera, 35, and her son Vicente Herrera, 19, on a wide variety of felony charges.

“It was a quiet, smoothly run operation, no sirens or anything,” said a resident of Tuscany Villas Apartments at 2526 East Eighth Street. “I noticed a police officer standing at the corner of the building across from my kitchen window with his hand on his holstered weapon. Five minutes later, the police were all gone.”

During the operation, the investigators recovered more than a dozen items stolen, police believe, during recent local vehicle burglaries. These items included expensive electronics such as computers, tablets, and audio recording/playing devices. Based on the items recovered and developing investigative leads, police believe Vicente Herrera was associated with a much larger group perpetrating burglaries throughout the Davis area; investigation into that potentiality is ongoing.

In addition, marijuana prepared for sale, two handguns, an illegal high-capacity gun magazine and a large store of ammunition were also discovered at the Herrera apartment.

Three children, ranging in age from 6 to 16, were taken into protective custody during the operation, Davis Police Lt. Glenn Glasgow said.

Jessie and Vicente Herrera were booked into the Yolo County Jail on charges of felony child endangerment as well as felonies related to the drug and weapons possession and conspiracy.

Police are in the process of locating the owners of the seized property, Lt. Glasgow said. Anyone who believes they are missing property that has not yet been reported stolen is encouraged to call the Davis Police Department at 530-747-5400.
