Bakersfield Man Arrested for DUI Crash that Leaves Passenger Dead

PISMO BEACH — A 21-year-old Bakersfield man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after he reportedly slammed his car into the center divider on northbound Highway 101, killing his passenger.

Joshua Hurt was booked at County Jail on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence of alcohol for the early morning June 27 single-vehicle accident, according to police.

Authorities haven’t released the name of Hurt’s passenger, who was also 21 and a resident of Bakersfield.

Hurt was driving a 1991 Acura Integra at an unknown speed about 4:30 a.m. on Highway 101 near Pismo Beach when the car veered off the roadway due to his alleged intoxication. The small vehicle crashed into the concrete center divider wall before it overturned, killing the unidentified male passenger, according to police.
