Transient Arrested After Alleged Stabbing

OCEANO – A known transient was arrested Friday night after allegedly stabbing another man during a fight near the intersection of Ocean and 23rd streets, according to the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office.

Chance Brian MacAire, 23

After the 8:23 p.m. stabbing, the suspect, Chance Brian MacAire, 23, fled the scene.  He was located by deputies more than two hours later near the intersection of Pier and Lakeside avenue.

Deputies chased MacAire into the lagoon at Norswing and Airpark Drive where he refused to come out of the water and threatened the deputies and himself with a knife, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

After an hour-long negotiation, MacAire surrendered and was taken to the County Jail, where he was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and resisting arrest.

The unidentified victim was stabbed in the “lower extremities” and taken to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo, where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

MacAire has no known address but frequents transient camps in Oceano, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
