Arsenal of weapons found, two arrested

REDWOOD CITY – Seven assault rifles, ten handguns and 5,000 rounds of ammunition were recovered in Redwood City from an undisclosed storage area on March 20.  Two male adults have been arrested. Both are being held on parole and probation violations pending further charges at the San Mateo County jail, according to Officer Veronica Barries of the East Palo Police Department.

The confiscated weapons included assault rifles, handguns, ammo clips and other weapons.

The operation was a joint effort between the East Palo Alto Police Department’s Special Duty Unit (SDU) and the Menlo Park Police Department’s Narcotic Enforcement Team (NET) along with state parole agents.

Also involved is Operation Smart, a program designed by the city of East Palo Alto to reduce gang violence. But it’s too early to determine at this point, said Officer Barries, whether the two men have ties to a gang. The two arrested suspects do have ties to East Palo Alto.

This is an ongoing investigation.
