Man Killed by Huntington Beach Police

A 20-year-old man was shot and killed by a Huntington Beach police officer Thursday after allegedly producing what turned out to be a replica semi-automatic handgun, police said.

Officers were called to 4911 Warner Ave. at 4:29 p.m. Thursday by a man who said the suspect and a woman were arguing. The caller said he had been threatened with a handgun, said Lt. Mitch O’Brien of the Huntington Beach Police Department.

A Huntington Beach police helicopter was dispatched and the suspect — identified Friday as Ian Berrier of Huntington Beach — and the woman were located walking in a residential neighborhood toward Hoskins Lane and Milo Drive. The man was shot by a police officer after he allegedly produced a replica handgun.
