Vehicle Burglary Leaves One Suspect Dead, Another Arrested

A possible burglary in progress lead to a confrontation with Citrus Heights Police Department (CHPD) officers, causing one suspect to be fatally shot and another arrested on charges of attempted auto theft, according to an official press release.

An alert resident at Debbie Ann Court alerted police to the suspicious pair before they were able to commit any burglaries

On Thursday, January 3, at approximately 2 am, CHPD officers responded to the 8000 block of Debbie Ann Court after a caller reported a possible vehicle burglary in progress. According to the CHPD, the caller reported a dark colored vehicle occupied by two subjects that had driven into their neighborhood. One subject, wearing a hoodie, exited the vehicle and entered another vehicle located two houses from the caller. As the caller did not recognize either subject, they believed they were committing a possible vehicle burglary or theft.

CHPD officers reportedly responded to the area to try to locate the suspects. The first officer arrived and located one of the suspects, and a confrontation ensued in which the suspect ignored the officer’s commands to show his hands.

The suspect reportedly jumped into his vehicle and aggressively reached for something while inside the vehicle that led the officer to believe the suspect was reaching for a weapon, causing the officer to shoot the suspect. Further investigation revealed edged weapons located in the area where the suspect’s concealed hands were reaching.
