Arson Investigation Leads to Arrest

HOLLISTER—A day after a morning fire the Hollister Police Department has arrested a previous tenant of the address at the 600 block of A Street.  Arrested for arson was Eugene Frankovic, 33, of Hollister.

In the morning hours, the Hollister Fire Department responded to a report of a vehicle fire.  Upon their arrival at the 600 Block of A Street they found two vehicles ablaze.  The fire department was able to extinguish the fire before it spread to the home that was next to the vehicles.

As a result of an investigation the fire department discovered that the fire was set deliberately.   The Fire Marshall determined that the fire started in the back of a pick-up truck and spread to the other vehicle that was parked directly behind it.

As the Hollister Police Department joined in the investigation they began to develop leads in the case.  The police soon developed a connection between the fire and previous tenant – Eugene Frankovic.

“This case is still pending and is in it’s infant stages,” Hollister Police Captain Carlos Reynoso said.” It is obvious this is an arson fire due to the evidence we have found.”

After several hours, Frankovic was found, arrested and charged with the crime of arson.  He was transported and booked into the San Benito County Jail.  His bail has been set at $100,000 dollars.

“Mr. Frankovic has made threats to a tenant at that address in the past,” Captain Reynoso added. “We have developed more evidence as the interview process has continued.”

The Hollister Police Department is asking anyone with information regarding this incident or may have seen anything to contact them at 1-831-636-4330.  Persons wishing to remain anonymous may call WeTip at 800-78-CRIME.  Information provided to WeTip may qualify for a reward.
