The 'Tiger Bandit' is behind bars

Winston Damian Evans Jr.

On his Facebook page, 32-year-old Winston Damian Evans, Jr. of Compton stated that he’s “self-employed and loving it!” In a press release, the LASD referred to Evans as “a drifter.” Regardless of job title, Evans a.k.a. the “Tiger Bandit” was charged on December 7th by the LASD for a string of Los Angeles area bank robberies committed in late November.

The “Tiger Bandit,” so named because he wore a Detroit Tigers baseball cap during several of the robberies, was arrested on December 4th at a relative’s house on California Avenue in Compton. At the residence, police found clothes believed to be worn during the robberies and an unspecified amount of cash.

LASD deputies also found a Nissan Altima that resembled the getaway vehicle caught on tape during one of the burglaries. Afterwards, Evans confessed to his involvement in six robberies that spanned from November 23rd to November 30th.

Over that period, Evans robbed banks in Cerritos, Long Beach, Marina Del Rey, Santa Monica, Huntington Beach, and Lomita. After a Lomita U.S. Bank was robbed on November 30th, the LASD put out a press release describing Evans and the robberies. At the time, detectives suspected that Evans was working with an accomplice, although no information has been released on a second arrest.

According to Evans’ Facebook profile, he attended three high schools including David Starr Jordan High School in Long Beach, Dominguez High School in Compton, and Canyon Springs High School in Moreno Valley. He also claims to have studied at the Keller Graduate School of Management at Devry University.

The LASD did not immediately comment on the issue.
