Mother, Daughter Shot in Face During Marijuana Theft Attempt

SHASTA COUNTY – Early on Monday morning two females entered a local hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds.  Shasta County deputies soon arrived and a further investigation revealed that the mother and her daughter were shot as they participated in an attempted theft of marijuana from a home.

Police determined that Daniel Schmitz conspired with his mother Cheryl, 54,  and sister Ashley, 21,  to steal marijuana from a residence on Woodburrow Road in Shingletown.  The females waited in the car while Daniel attempted the theft.  While waiting in the car they were shot, suffering injuries to their face.  They were treated at the hospital and released.  Daniel Schmitz received no injuries in the incident.

No suspect has been named or apprehended in the case, and the members of the Schmitz family were not charged or arrested.
