SLOPD nets arrest after quick footchase

A man is in custody after he led San Luis Obispo Police on a quick foot chase.

Andrew Altamirano was arrested on multiple charges

According to SLOPD, they received information on Friday regarding a subject with an outstanding $15,000 warrant for his arrest. The subject’s name is Andrew Altamirano, 26, of San Luis Obispo. Police say they were informed Altamirano was possibly armed with a gun. Officers responded to the area and quickly located Altamirano walking nearby and attempted to detain him. Police say Altamirano led officers on a brief foot pursuit into a vacant lot but he was quickly apprehended without injury or incident.

Upon taking Altamirano into custody, officers say they located tar heroin, marijuana, and numerous cellular phones in his possession. But after an extensive search of the area, no gun was located, nor was the information about the gun ever substantiated.

Altamirano was booked at San Luis Obispo County Jail on possession of heroin, possession of marijuana, resisting arrest and an outstanding misdemeanor warrant.
