CHP car chase ends in crash

California Highway Patrol officers arrested a man on Thursday night after a high-speed chase on Highway 101 that ended up with the suspect crashing his vehicle.

According to CHP, officers attempted to pull over J. Pedro C. Lopez, 55, on 101 on his way to San Luis Obispo from Atascadero because he was driving less than 40 mph.

After pulling to the side of the road two times, Lopez raced away. CHP says the speeds reached 100 mph. Officers say Lopez crashed the vehicle near the Monterey Street off-ramp of 101. He was uninjured. Officers say Lopez was tested for being under the influence via a blood test as alcohol was not present on his breath.

Lopez was charged with on suspicion of felony evading arrest and driving under the influence. It is still not clear exactly why Lopez fled police.
