Transient suspected of shooting down fellow homeless camp resident

PLACERVILLE — A dispute over property is suspected as the motive behind the deadly shooting of one transient by another Sunday afternoon.

El Dorado sheriff’s officials on Monday announced the arrest of 42-year-old Kenneth Sharonoff, a resident of the Kmart at 3968 Missouri Flat Rd. in Placerville.

The person who reported the homicide to authorities told dispatch that one of the transients living at the property was shot and killed by another transient, whom also resided at the property. Upon arrival, deputies searched the area and located a subject on the property with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to his upper torso. The subject was pronounced dead at the scene. Numerous subjects were detained and questioned.

The victim was a white male in his 60s; his identity is being withheld pending next-of-kin notification.
