A Chicago Park man was booked at the Nevada County Jail early Tuesday (Feb. 3) morning as the prime suspect in Sunday’s rape and sexual assault of a woman from the same area.

Alan M. Rey, whom authorities say recently moved to the area from Auburn, was taken into custody Monday night after cooperating Placer County Sheriff‘s deputies made a traffic stop on Rey along Interstate 80 at Placer Hills Rd.
Nevada County Sheriff‘s detective sergeant Stephen Tripp said his department’s Narcotics Unit had Rey under surveillance investigators developed information leading to identifying him as the prime suspect.
“We were waiting for a search warrant to be signed when he went mobile,” Tripp said, adding that not knowing where the suspect was headed, it was decided to take him into custody.
“We served the warrant latter on the suspect and his residence, and discovered additional evidence,” Tripp said, declining to identify specifically what had been found.
The 36-year old Rey was booked on suspicion of rape, sexual battery and oral copulation, but was subsequently freed on $75,000 bail.
Tripp said the victim had suffered other injuries in the assault.
