Woman uses knife to attack car

Officers of the Novato Police Department were called in late last Wednesday evening to break up a physical altercation between a local woman and man that left one of them with a vandalized car and minor injuries, as NPD Sergeant Jennifer Dunlap writes in an NPD press release.

Witnesses in a residential area on Shady Lane saw the man and woman arguing in the street in front of several homes. The victim called police headquarters in Novato to report the suspect “once she started vandalizing his vehicle,” according to NPD Lieutenant John McCarthy.NPD Officers Barnes, Carroll, Waite-McGough, and Cantley responded to the scene of the altercation at 11:30 p.m.

The officers found the woman, who was later identified as 30-year-old Novato resident Marissa Arias Cordova, attempting to drive a large kitchen knife repeatedly into the vehicle that belonged to the victim. McCarthy explained that the suspect most likely lives in the Shady Lane area, though her arrest report lists no specific residence. Officers immediately ordered Arias Cordovato drop the knife and detained her for further questioning. She was cooperative and continued to follow officers’ requests.

Police were called to Shady Lane on reports of the fight.

The unnamed adult male Novato resident with whom Arias Cordova had been arguing reported that she had punched him in the face and made attempts to strike him with the knife during their physical altercation. Fortunately, he sustained only minor injuries, though his car had some body and paint damage.

Officers ultimately arrested Arias Cordova on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, vandalism, and battery, and booked her into Marin County Jail.
