North Highlands Murder Suspect Arrested

A Citrus Heights resident has recently been arrested in connection to the stabbing murder of a 39 year old man last month in North Highlands, according to an official press release issued by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department.

Harley Edward Stratton, 19, of Citrus Heights was reportedly booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on a charge of murder, and is currently being held without the option of bail.

According to Sac Sheriff, at about 9:15 pm on Tuesday, December 23, 2014, deputies reportedly received a call reporting a man had been stabbed at the intersection of Karen Lane and Canary Drive in North Highlands. Upon their arrival, deputies reportedly found a man — later identified as Jason Westmoreland, 39 — who has suffered at least one stab wound to his torso. The victim was reportedly transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Homicide detectives reportedly believe Stratton and Westmoreland did not know each other and became involved in a mutual physical altercation when Stratton stabbed the victim at least one time, resulting in his death from the wound.
