Calaveras deputy nabs three for gas station burglary

SAN ANDREAS — Three foothill residents are in custody following the break-in of a Calaveras County gas station early Monday morning.

A Calaveras County sheriff’s deputy responded to an audible alarm at the Mokelumne Hill STP Gas Station around 1:40 a.m. Monday, seeing the station’s front glass doors had been broken into.traffic stop on a vehicle he saw leaving the area and observed a cash drawer, cigarettes and potato chips in the car, according to a release from the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office. The items had all come from the station’s convenience store. Authorities also located burglary tools in the vehicle.

Arrested were the vehicle’s three occupants: Justin Robert Trammell, 20, of Sutter Creek; Daniel Astwood, 18, of Ione; and Benjamin Eugene Cribb, 21, of Sutter Creek.

During an interview with a Calaveras County detective, one of the suspects admitted burglarizing the Mokelumne Hill station a few weeks ago, as well as a Chevron gas station in Valley Springs on Aug. 6.

The three suspects, all residents of neighboring Amador County, were booked in Calaveras County Jail on four charges each and their bail was set at $110,000 apiece. The investigation remains ongoing.
