A Riverside County man has been arrested on suspicion of domestic violence, as well as allegedly shooting at someone who tried to intervene.

Just after 4:15 PM on May 20, a CHP officer responded to the San Gorgonio Pass to investigate an allegation of domestic violence. A witness had reported seeing a vehicle stopped in the #3 lane and the passenger, a Hispanic male adult, repeatedly striking the driver, a Hispanic female adult.

The suspect was reportedly still assaulting the victim when the officer arrived, at which point he was quickly pulled from the car and arrested.

Another witness told the officer that before his arrival, a person in a motorhome had stopped and confronted the suspect, to which the suspect responded by drawing a firearm and firing a single shot at the motorhome. A revolver and spent shell casing found inside the vehicle occupied by the suspect and victim corroborated this account.

The victim, who bore multiple visible injuries to her face and neck, was treated at the scene.

The suspect, whose name has not been released, was later booked on suspicion of felony domestic violence, shooting at a moving vehicle, discharging a firearm with gross negligence, being a wanted felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, and possession of a controlled substance.

Police say the driver of the motorhome continued westbound and their whereabouts remain unknown. CHP encourages anyone with potential knowledge of the incident, or the motorhome’s whereabouts, to call San Gorgonio Pass Area CHP at (951) 769 – 2000.
