Homemade rocket explodes, leading to arrest

SAN FRANCISCO – On Monday April 8th, an explosion occurred in the 500 block of Leavenworth Street in San Francisco’s notorious Tenderloin District. Arriving officers saw “debris consistent with a homemade rocket.”

Someone who witnessed the incident reported that a male about 30-35 years old placed the rocket on the ground and then quickly left the scene.

Video surveillance confirmed the witness’s account. As officers investigated, they “developed a possible location of the suspect.”

On the morning of Thursday April 11th, officers spotted a man in the 1800 block of Post Street who resembled the suspect’s description.

51-year-old Scott Campbell was detained while a search warrant was executed at his home. At his residence, investigators found supplies for building homemade bombs, as well as “other hazardous materials.”

Campbell placed under arrested and booking to custody at the San Francisco County Jail where ne now faces charges related to possession of explosives, as well as an outstanding DUI warrant.
