SONOMA COUNTY // Two porch pirates have been arrested after swiping packages from porches and mailboxes in Guerneville over the weekend.

On December 23rd just after 2 AM, an alert homeowner on the 14400 block of Old Cazadero Road called police to report seeing a man walk up to his neighbor’s porch, grab a package, and drive away in a silver van with a broken driver’s side window.

Responding deputies found the van on the 14800 block of Cherry Street and made contact with its occupants, identified as 28-year-old Nathan Hines of Cazadero and 25-year-old Jacob Sanderson of Laytonville.

While they spoke, officers noticed an abundance of Amazon packages in the van that belonged to neither of them — a secret betrayed even further when the two gave conflicting information about how they came about said packages.

Both were ultimately arrested on charges of mail theft, possession of stolen property, and conspiracy. Further, Sanderson is charged with possession of heroin and Hines is charged with possession of methamphetamine and paraphernalia.

The packages were successfully returned to the victims.
