Suspected drunk driver leads officers on slow speed pursuit

It began on the evening of December 2 at Leddy Avenue and South Wright Road. A report had come in about a driver who was possibly drunk, so officers responded to investigate.

The first officer on scene came upon the driver in question, “stopped in the roadway, facing the wrong direction.”

The female driver would not comply with the officer. She had “several alcohol containers” in her vehicle. Soon she drove away from the officer and a pursuit began.

The pursuit was a slow one but it didn’t end at first. Other officers joined the pursuit, blocking the driver with their vehicles.

The driver continued to ignore officers and would not roll down her window. The standoff continued for thirty minutes, at which time someone who knew the driver approached to help.

The driver turned off her ignition but did not further comply. Apparently when the ignition was cut off, the doors automatically unlocked. Officers were then able to open the door and gain access to the driver.

55-year-old Deanna Antoinette Ocampo was booked on the charges of evading, possession of a controlled substance and paraphernalia.
