HOLLISTER — Police arrested a Monterey man on Thursday morning after he was seen driving above the speed limit through a school zone.

36-year-old Christopher McKenzie was arrested for vehicle theft, possession of stolen property, and possession of firearm and ammunition.

At around 10:30 AM, resource officer Carlos Rodriguez was patrolling the area near Calaveras School when he noticed a vehicle travelling at 20 MPH above the speed limit. Officer Rodriguez conducted a stop and ran the vehicle’s plate, which revealed the vehicle to be stolen.

Rodriguez detained McKenzie without further incident. A subsequent search turned up a firearm and ammunition hidden in the vehicle.

Being a convicted felon, McKenzie is forbidden from owning a firearm of any kind.
