Gang member jailed for back-to-back robberies

A Fresno gang member is behind bars for allegedly robbing two convenience stores in one night.

Sureno gang member Jose Valles, 35, allegedly robbed an AM/PM on Cherry Avenue at about 11:00 p.m. Tuesday, and then robbed a customer at an AM/PM on East Tulare Avenue early Wednesday morning, according to authorities.

Officers say he may have brandished a handgun during the crime.

Valles was pulled over by police in a stolen Cadillac later that morning. He fled the vehicle and attempted to enter an unlocked home, and then hid behind a garbage can before being arrested.

He was in possession of a replica handgun and stolen property, police said.
