Lemoore Man Arrested in Connection to his Daughter’s Death

LEMOORE – A former Navy sailor was arrested on suspicion of murder in connection to the death of his 11-month-old daughter.

Troy Bailey, Jr.

Police arrested 20-year-old Troy Bailey, Jr. for allegedly killing his baby, Aiyana Jasmine Bailey. The girl was pronounced dead last week from massive swelling to the brain.

Bailey was a former member of the Navy and was living with the child and the child’s mother, an active duty officer, at the Lemoore Naval Air Station. The parents took Aiyana to the Naval Air Station’s base hospital after she became unresponsive. Attempts to revive the child were unsuccessful and she was pronounced dead an hour after arriving at the hospital.

The baby’s death was initially believed to be from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. However, a postmortem X-ray and CAT scan found a broken arm and skull fracture, according to the Kings County Sheriff’s Department.

Authorities believe the injury happened the night before the child was taken to the hospital and she likely died during the night due to swelling in her brain from the skull fracture.

Deputies became suspicious of the parents and ultimately arrested Bailey. At this point, the mother, a 3rd class petty officer from the Philippines, has not been arrested and does not appear to be a suspect in the case.

The Kings County district attorney’s office has charged Bailey with murder and assault on a child under the age of eight causing death.
