He’ll Take Fries With That…And A Car

Santa Barbara County – Charles Sanford Cerrutti, apparently building a “junk food and grease” potential defense for himself, left the Lompoc  McDonald’s after partaking of their vast menu offerings, and summarily perpetrated a carjacking in the restaurant parking lot.

Charles Cerrutti

Cerrutti, a 49-year-old resident of Bakersfield, left the restaurant at approximatly 5:00 p.m. on March 2nd and approached the female driver of a white 1997 Mercury Cougar.  According to Lompoc Police Department spokesman Sgt. Chuck Strange, Cerrutti “pulled the woman out of her car and threw her to the ground” and immediately wrestled her car keys from her hands.  At that point, Cerrutti is alleged to have climbed in behind the wheel and drove out of the parking lot, “further injuring the victim”.

The female victim, according to Strange, was transported to Lompoc Valley Medical Center with undetermined injuries.

With multiple witness statements taken at the scene, Lompoc Police had a description of the suspect as “white, 6 feet to 6-foot-3, thin build, with short brown/gray hair and clean-shaven,” with further details provided as to his apparel.

With that information in hand, and with a complete ID on the stolen Mercury Cougar, Cerrutti was spotted driving the vehicle in Bakersfield.  Shortly thereafter, Cerrutti was taken into custody by Bakersfield Police and arrested on charges of carjacking, elder abuse, robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, and driving under the influence of alcohol.

Cerruti is currently held in Kern County Jail pending transfer to Santa Barbara County Jail.
