A business was notified by customs their product could not be shipped because their international bonds could not be verified.

This perplexed the business as they had paid $5,500 in premium payments to Global Cargo Insurance Agency for a cargo policy which included international bonds.

The business found out their insurance was cancelled due to lack of payment; they had been uninsured for months. The business paid another $5,500 to bring their account current.

The Department of Insurance looked into this case and found 43-year old insurance agent Gelinda Phann Keo was behind the missed payment.

She was arrested on 01/03/2020 for allegedly stealing the $5,500 premium. Commissioner Ricardo Lara had this to say about the case, “This agent allegedly stole money from a hardworking business owner, leaving them uninsured and financially vulnerable. My department will continue to investigate agents who use their position of trust to take advantage of their clients and bring them to justice.”

Keo was booked into Century Regional Detention Facility with bail set at $70,000. Charges filed will be prosecuted by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’ Office. Concurrently her license is under review by the Department of Insurance.
