Two Insurance Fraudsters Convicted

Said Lakhlifi

LOS ANGELES – Two recent incidents involving insurance fraud in the Los Angeles area has drawn attention to the need for the general public to be aware and alert in their financial dealings.

Covina resident Said Lakhlifi, a 52-year-old insurance agent and owner of Mogador Insurance Agency, was convicted on three counts of identity theft, forgery and petty theft.

His crimes related to the conducting of fraudulent insurance transactions, from which he was ordered to pay restitution of nearly $30,000.

44-year-old Long Beach resident Julie Diane Shinar was convicted of theft by embezzlement.  She was sentenced to 3 years of probation and also ordered to pay nearly $30,000 in restitution.

Shinar’s misdeeds sprung from receiving cash payments from clients that she pocketed.  She also pocketed checks from clients and never issued them a policy.

Shinar’s employment with the unnamed insurance company has been terminated.
