Attempted Car Theft Turns Attempted Murder

On Thursday 06/20/2019, 10:22 AM, a guard securing a parking lot on the 700 block of West F Street notified the Turlock Police Department Dispatch Unit of an armed male trying to break into a car.

While the security guard was reporting the crime in progressive, the would be thief, 24-year old Alexander Araujo of Turlock, shot toward the security guard and an additional witness, before taking off on foot towards a residential area.

Officers, Command Staff, and detectives swarmed the area, setting a perimeter around the residential area Araujo was running through, jumping fences, in an attempt to flee from his actions. Araujo’s attempts were in vain. At 10:56 AM, he was taking captured and arrested.

Araujo, who had several outstanding felony and misdemeanors warrants out in his name, is now facing attempted murder charges. His bail is set at $750,000 and he remains at the Stanislaus County Jail as of the time of this writing.
