Sharp Increase in Evening Crashes Prompts Urgent Road Safety Warning During Ongoing Storm
MURRIETA, CA — The Murrieta Police Department has issued a traffic safety advisory after patrol officers handled nine vehicle collisions within a seven-hour span during an ongoing rainstorm.
Between 5:00 p.m. and midnight, patrol units responded to nine separate crashes across the city. Investigators determined that three of the collisions involved drivers impaired by alcohol or drugs.
With continued wet weather forecast across the region, police officials warned that slick road surfaces and reduced visibility are significantly compounding driving hazards.
Authorities urged motorists to reduce their speed, increase following distances behind other vehicles, allocate additional travel time for commutes, and avoid all driving while impaired by arranging rideshares or designated drivers.
