Repeat Retail Theft Offender Detained After Returning to Dick’s Sporting Goods Again
CHINO, CA — A 47-year-old resident of La Puente has been taken into custody without bail after returning to steal from a Dick’s Sporting Goods store he had allegedly targeted just days earlier.
Investigators had previously identified the suspect in connection with a shoplifting incident involving more than $1,100 in merchandise stolen from the retailer. On Oct. 31, 2026, patrol officers received an automated license plate reader (ALPR) alert indicating that the suspect’s vehicle had re-entered the city.
Responding units located the vehicle and initiated contact. A search led to the recovery of additional merchandise believed to have been freshly stolen from the same sporting goods store, along with items of drug paraphernalia.
A criminal history check confirmed the suspect had two prior convictions for theft-related offenses. Officers arrested the individual and booked him into custody on multiple charges.
A judicial officer subsequently granted a bail enhancement request, ordering the suspect held without bail. The department credited proactive surveillance technology and rapid officer response for apprehending the repeat offender.
