Woodland Traffic Stop Attempt Leads to Multi-County Pursuit & Arrest of Suspect with Felony Warrant
WOODLAND, CA — A multi-county pursuit ended early Tuesday morning on Oct. 13, 2026, resulting in the arrest of a Berkeley man on felony charges.
A Woodland Police officer initially attempted to perform a traffic stop for an observed infraction near East Main Street and Freeway Drive around 1:45 a.m. The vehicle failed to stop, entering northbound Interstate 5 to evade law enforcement.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) subsequently assumed control of the northbound pursuit along I-5, deploying ground units alongside aerial assistance. Officers terminated the chase in Chico after placing multiple spike strips along the roadway to disable the vehicle.
Authorities taken the driver, identified as 45-year-old Dustin Garst of Berkeley, into custody without further incident. Officers determined Garst was on searchable probation in Shasta County and subject to an active felony warrant. A search revealed approximately one-quarter ounce of suspected fentanyl in his possession.
CHP personnel transported Garst back to Woodland Police Department custody. He was subsequently booked into the Yolo County Jail on suspicion of felony evading, narcotics offenses, and outstanding warrants.
