Corona Police Drone Helps Officers Track Fleeing Suspect and Recover Unserialized Firearm
CORONA, CA – A police drone helped officers track a fleeing suspect and locate a discarded firearm following a report of an armed man in Corona.
Corona Police Department officers responded to the area of Sixth Street and East Grand Boulevard after dispatch received a report of a man with a gun. The department’s Drone as First Responder (DFR) unit launched to the scene and quickly located a subject matching the physical description provided by the reporting party.
When ground officers arrived and attempted to contact the man, he fled on foot. Operators monitoring the drone footage observed the suspect conceal a firearm on an apartment patio in the 1000 block of Circle City Drive as he continued running.
Officers apprehended the suspect shortly thereafter and retrieved the weapon from the patio. Officers examined the firearm and confirmed it was loaded and unserialized.
