Remains Found in Rural San Luis Obispo County Identified as Patrick jay Valente, Missing Since 2008

SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA — Human remains recovered in a rural area of San Luis Obispo County have been identified as Patrick Jay Valente, a resident who went missing 18 years ago, authorities announced.

In June 2026, the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office Detective Division initiated an investigation after receiving reports of possible human remains. Detectives from the Major Crimes and Coroner Units, alongside forensic specialists, responded to the site and confirmed the remains were human. The Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue team subsequently provided assistance with recovery efforts.

Following an examination by a forensic anthropologist, officials positively identified the remains as Valente, who was 58 years old and resided in unincorporated Arroyo Grande when family members reported him missing in July 2008.

Sheriff’s officials noted that the circumstances surrounding Valente’s initial disappearance were deemed suspicious at the time and prompted an official investigation. Detectives with the Major Crimes Unit are incorporating the newly recovered evidence into their ongoing inquiry regarding Valente’s disappearance and death.

Authorities urge anyone with relevant information to contact the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office Detective Division at (805) 781-4500 or Crime Stoppers at (805) 549-7867.
